Class: Dead or Different?

While browsing one of my favorite sites, Future Female Leaders, I discovered an article. Although I agree that fewer women are choosing stereotypically "classy" paths in life, I did not agree with all points in the article.

It started out fabulous, with "it's okay to be feminine." I agree. Feminine is good! However, it quickly became problematic. The author believes that all women must remain modest and that is the most empowering thing. Yes, for some women, modesty is empowering, but all women are not the same. Some find modesty empowering, while others do not. It is simply a matter of preference, and one is not necessarily better than the other.

"Put Time and Effort into Relationships." Okay, there was nothing wrong here at all. Do not ignore your significant other, do not broadcast your commitment issues on social media (on second thought, please do so that everyone knows who isn't worth time), and, if you are not in a polyamorous/open relationship, DO NOT CHEAT. Relationships do not carry themselves; you must work with your partner to have a solid one.

"Have common courtesy." Again, this is 100% accurate. Be nice, play fair, use your manners. Take your selfies, relish in the likes, but do not allow the attention to take away your kindness.

I do not believe that class is dead. I think that the definition of class is simply changing. Do I agree that sometimes, we, as millennials, need to take a step back and think about if we should say or do something? Yes. Do I believe that habits and cultural norms have changed over time? YES. What was considered high-class in the 1940s was not the same as in the 1860s. Should we be worried about the new definition of classy? Nope. Just do your thing. Unless you are being rude, disrespectful, or mean, you are a-okay.

Cannes 2016 Style Report: Blake Lively

Blake Lively dressed as three different Disney princesses this year. First was an Ariel/Elsa inspired look, which was my personal favorite. The dress was Versace, her shoes were Loubutins, and the jewels were Lorianna Schwartz. Hair and makeup was done by L'oreal. (I say Ariel/Elsa inspired, because it's debated on which one she was truly channeling.)

Her second outfit was Cinderella. The dress is Vivienne Westwood. Her accessories were the most adorable. The clutch was Oscar De la Renta and her jewels were Lorainne Schwartz.

How I Stay Organized

Organized Time:
My life is a mess of deadlines and papers, so I developed a system for keeping me organized. Part of that is my MintGreen planner, as seen here. I also use Google Calendar, Google Keep, and plenty of Post-it Notes. I put all deadlines in Google Calendar and color code them by event. I use Google Keep for to-do lists with reminders, as well as for lists I need on both my phone and laptop. Post-it notes are stuck throughout my planner to remind me of blog posts or generic things I need to do.

Organized Makeup/Nail Polish
I use an acrylic container with one large section, two medium sections, two small sections, and three sections for lipstick and travel sized perfume.
In the first small section, I keep all of my eyeshadow palettes, and my eyeliner, mascara, and stick eyeshadow go into the first mini section. The second mini section holds tweezers, nail clippers, and nail files. The final mini section has my lipstick, lip gloss, and travel perfume. The small section in front of the small and mini sections holds all of my brushes.
The large section holds my powder and nail polish remover. The two medium sections next to the large section hold my nail polish in one and my foundation, concealer, and blush in the other.

Redefining

Lately, I've been trying to redefine my style. I'm completely smitten by looks inspired by Blair Waldorf, Massie Block, and anything Southern prep. Although I plan on creating a wardrobe almost entirely inspired by these ideals, I also plan on keeping my defining pieces-black combat boots, black jeans, and leather jackets because, unfortunately, heels and dresses are not always practical.

I'm also redefining how I want my room to look. I definitely want something more classic, but also very modern. I'm thinking about a nautical theme. I still love Captain America, so I can keep most of my Cap themed items out, since the color scheme is the same.

Unfortunately, changing my look costs more than I'm willing to spend. I will be sure to update my progress, however.

New Obession

My newest obsession is Gossip Girl. I tried to get into it a few years ago, but it didn't really stick, so I decided to try to watch it again. I'm still on season one, but I'm definitely loving it. Blair reminds me of a more mature Massie Block from The Clique. New York fashionistas with so much sass, you wonder how their tiny bodies can hold it all. Also there's the Blair/Serena rivalry and the Massie/Claire catfight to parallel to. I'm aware that Gossip Girl was a book series-I wanted to read it during the height of my obsession with The Clique-but I'm also aware that Blair's character is completely different in the show.

At this point, I'm just waiting for Carter Baizen to show up. I've heard some things about him, and I'm really looking foward to seeing how the storyline played out.

As always, leave a comment if you ever want to chat about GG (just no spoilers, please!) or just want to talk in general.

{Belated} Blog's First Birthday

I've been meaning to post a one-year update, but I kept forgetting to finish writing it.

So, thank you to everyone who has looked at my blog over the past year, especially Hailey. I've had a total of 938 pageviews, with my blogilates post gaining almost 30. I've never thought that my blog would get this many views, and I cannot thank you guys enough!

I plan on focusing more on study and productivity this year, with some more feminist musings and maybe a movie review or two. (Most likely will review Zoolander 2 and Captain America: Civil War)

So thank you for staying with my odd ramblings as I learn how to blog. It's a long road, but I'm excited to be on it!
